Two Important Sales Strategies No One Ever Mentions

This is not a parody – I promise!

For as much training as I see on YouTube and in team pages, there are two sales-related concepts that several MLM representatives may not be utilizing (at all or even a little). These two necessary strategies can help you more than you think, and the best part is that they are FREE and you can start using them immediately!


Too many MLM reps look past simply being themselves. People sign up with a company and suddenly become someone that their family and friends don’t even know anymore! From a fun loving, quirky, silly person to Janet The Rep.


Here’s a truth bomb: You can only wear a personality that doesn’t belong to you for so long. Not only do your family and friends see it, but even people you don’t know see it. The most obvious identification are those damn script messages. Believe it or not, we speak unlike anyone else on this planet. People are pretty keen to whether or not you’re being you or being Janet The Rep just based on how you speak! Scripts are scripts and people know they are not genuine. They are….JANET THE REP.

You’ve got to remember that quality over quantity is a thing in our industry. Sure, you might get a few extra mascara sales or find a few extra people to be product testers (eye roll). But in the long run, you’re not being you – and that can have dire consequences for your sales and residual income down the road.

Your best bet is to just be you. Not everyone is a bubbly-motivational-quote-poster. Not everyone addresses people as “hey girl.” Be. Your. Self. It is truly the best thing you can be in our industry because people and prospects are now looking for authenticity immediately. Before they care about ingredients, process, or price – people look for authenticity.

For example: I swear and I’m extremely sarcastic. I’m not going to change that and become a stick of bubblegum who only puts wholesome quotes on Facebook because I think I’ll get more people to join me in my business. See, here’s the thing: I can’t be Janet The Rep forever. Sometime, I’m going to be the Courtney that I am. My team will feel slighted if they think that I manipulated them to join me by pretending I’m someone I’m not.

Fuck yeah, man. Fuck yeah.



You guys clearly know by I’m not into all that psycho babble new age bullshit. But one concept I do believe in is that the universe totally knows what your intentions are even if you don’t think it does.

There have been plenty of times that the last few days of the month came around and I thought “Whoa, I have to reach my goal…let’s make sales!” and I reached out to people with the intention of making sales. Not only did I feel a little bit slimy, but nearly everyone ignored me or said “no” (now you see why I hammer people for the sales pitch messages – it’s a waste of time to send them…).

Why? Because the intention sucks! Constantly, uplines tell us that we need to go into conversations without thinking about the sale, but when you want to sell…that can be confusing. I promise you that that if you let go of the the sales aspect and truly go into your work day with the intention to make the day of as many people as possible, your sales will go up.

People know when you’re being genuine. I mean, come on. How many times have we known we were falling into a sales trap when someone simply said “how are you today?” We know! We know that more often than not, the point of the message is to lead to a sale. People are smarter than we give them credit for sometimes.

Here are the bottom lines with this:

  • You aren’t going to build real relationships by going into conversations with the intention to make sales. The 7 figure earners in your company are where they are because they made friends, not sales.
  • Greed does not succeed (the rhyme was not intentional; promise). It never does. I don’t care which higher power your subscribe to, if any – greed does not ever succeed. You cannot close a deal based on greed. One of two things will happen: 1) You’ll hate yourself for it after a while; 2) Word will get out that you’re an MLM equivalent of a used car salesperson and then you’re really screwed. Nothing ruins business more than a greedy reputation.
  • You need to set an intention to be yourself and spread love to other people and stick to it. I’m not talking about going into it kicking and screaming – you have to really believe that you want to help other people and really set the intention for your day. The universe knows this shit and it’s either going to help you or feed you to the wolves.

I want to see you utilize these strategies all weekend. Before you sit down to work on your products and services and sales, repeat this mantra and believe it:

I am out to make someone’s day. I don’t know what that means, but that’s what I am going to do. It may not lead to sales or a new team member, but it will lead to me making someone else happy because they found someone authentic to talk to.

The sales are ALWAYS behind my generosity and kindness.
